Superstitions in Craps
When a gambling tradition, or any game, has been around as long as craps
has, there are sure to be some myths and tall tales that come about from
the use of craps and watching craps being played. For your entertainment,
here are a few of the myths that we have found about the game of craps.
What is the big deal about the dice falling off the table?
It is often thought that when the dice falls off the table
that the next roll is going to be a seven, which is a big deal in playing
craps.
How do you break this ‘going to get a seven’?
Make the dealer give you the dice off the floor so that you will not
get the seven, this is why so many rollers in the casino are heard yelling
same dice.
It is also considered bad luck if the dice hit someone else hand. In
order to get rid of this bad luck you need to get fresh dice.
When a woman walks up to the craps table, she usually attracts a larger
crowd because of the Virgin principle, not only of the woman but a virgin
shooter is supposed to be good luck.
Another myth is that is the dice hit another person’s hand when
you are rolling the dice; you are sure to get a seven. Even workers need
to be careful in not touching the dice!
When you are playing craps offline in the casino, it is considered a ‘hex’ if
you are throwing your money down on the table while someone is rolling
the dice. When the dice hit this new money, they are in for a bout of bad
luck. Do not ever put money on the table in the middle of a roll.
You often will hear both players and casino workers yelling ‘watch
the hands’ and you know that a roll of the dice is near.
Male virgin shooters are considered to be bad luck! – Do not tell
anyone you are if you are have never shot before! The dice have not been
used enough by these hands and they are considered to be cold in the eyes
of the superstitious.
If a shooter is a superstitious player, they will not walk up and play
at a table where no one else is to be found. This means that the dice are
cold, and need handled a bit more before they will play there.
When a table is going bad is when all the betters at any particular table
are more wrong than right. What the table is considered bad luck, the more
sevens are going to be rolled. |
